The company was organized on April 13,1878 as the Callicoon Agricultural Fire Relief Association of Sullivan County, New York for the purpose of transacting business as an assessment co-operative fire insurance company in Sullivan County in New York. It was incorporated under the laws of the State of New York on June 29, 1910. In 1964, the current title was adopted.
Callicoon Co-operative Insurance Company underwrites most property line, with a focus on commercial multiple peril, homeowners, fire and farmowners coverages. Business is produced through approximately 20 independent agencies. Administration of the company's affairs is under the direction of Philip E. Conaty, Esq. secretary and treasurer. Mr. Conaty has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2002.
Callicoon is assigned an A rating (Excellent) by A.M. Best based on its excellent capitalization, consistently profitable operating performance and favorable balance sheet liquidity. The company's overall liquidity ratios are significantly higher than the company's property industry composite.
